Ice Age remains found at Norton Bottoms Quarry

In 2008, during extraction operations at our Norton Bottoms Quarry, our excavator driver encountered a number of Ice Age remains of large animals including Bison, Elephant and Hippopotamus. They were found at the bottom of the excavation, about 5-6 metres below surface level, at a low point. The remains include the head of a Bison. These finds are being studied by a team from Birmingham University who are engaged in the Trent Valley Palaeolithic Project.

Whilst such finds are not uncommon, they should provide some more detailed information of the Palaeo-environment.
